Zanskar river rafting expedition is one of the top few, exotic and remote, river trips in the world.
Our river trip starts from Padum (3490 mts), which would qualify as the highest rafting put in locations possible on the planet. The river journey flows through deep gorges and traverses across harsh inhospitable geography of Ladakh, in one of the remotest and sparsely inhabited regions of the world. The expedition starts as a road journey from Srinagar or Leh, and travels through scenic landscape to Kargil, and further to Padum. From Padum the river trip flows through the amazing sheer gorges of Zanskar right up to Nimo where the river confluences with Indus. The expedition ends at Leh, and can be further enhanced by taking up few exciting road excursions around Leh as per individual interests.
An hour long flight from Delhi to Leh will take you over the Greater Himalaya where you will be able to see the K2 amongst many other breathtaking views. You land at one of the highest civilian airports in the world at 3139 mts. It is strongly recommended that you rest and acclimatize to the altitude and not move out of your bed except for your meals today. Overnight stay at hotel.
After an early breakfast at the hotel a visit to monasteries such as Shey, Thiksey and Hemis will be arranged. You will arrive back to Leh in time for lunch for which Leh offers excellent opportunities. Post lunch relax or walk into the Leh town, to its exciting Tibetan market for souvenirs. You can take in the magnificent sights of peaks across the horizon and get ready for the drive to Kargil the next day. Overnight stay at Leh hotel.

Rafting trip starts with the safety talk. It is the highest put-in point for the river expedition on the planet. We raft down 30 kms in 3 to 4 hours. The river today is a class 2 section, a good introduction for the first timer and as well as to the river in general. Settle into camp at Zangla by afternoon. Overnight at camp.
Today we raft nearly 25 kms of class 3 section to Neyarak. This is a grade 3 section and warms you up for the rafting that is to follow in the days to come. The river banks would change into towering mountain walls rising to thousands of feet above you. Will have lunch on the way and raft some more rapids before calling it a day and set up the camp below Neyrak village which is one of the few locations where camping is possible in the canyon. Overnight camp at Neyrak .
Today's 40 kms rafting section takes us from Neyrak to Chilling approx. 5- 6hrs including scouting and lunch through the core of the Zanskar valley. A classic white water day with continuous class 3 rapids, and a few class 4 where the river squeezes between a gap of about 18ft known as the GATE. We stop for lunch near a huge waterfall and continue to the confluence of Markha River with Zankar River. Rock formations, spires and an amazing palette of colors add extra on the today trip. We raft till Chilling. Overnight camp at Chilling.
We raft nearly 30 kms of class 3-4 section from Chilling to Nimu. The river finally plunges out of the canyon to confluence with Indus River at Nimu. Our river trip would end at Nimu at the confluence of Zanskar River and Indus. Further drive to Leh (one hour). Overnight hotel.
