The North face - Kuari Pass which is a short trek and starts from Joshimath and complete in 6 days at Joshimath. The peak is of 5000m and offers great views of Nanda Devi (Indias highest mountain) and many others. This is a very spectacular part of the Indian Himalayan and one that we never grow tired of looking at. After this trek, on the way back we get on the rafts for grade IV river expedition which finishes in Ruderprayag.
This is a classic river run negotiating over 40 grade III and IV rapids and covering the full distance between Kaldubagarh to Ruderprayag rafting downstream at the Upper Alakhananda River in Uttarakhand. This multiday trek and river adventure especially crafted for those who are looking for an absolute adrenaline rush.
Early morning drive to Joshimath. The drive takes us into the rugged country of the Garhwal along the Alaknanda river. Going past a few holy confluences the road keeps ascending to the small township of Joshimath, which is the base for the Indian Army and the Indian Tibet Border police for this area. Breakfast & Lunch enroute. Overnight Guest House in Joshimath.
Drive 14km to Auli (2750m). From Auli we get to see a distinct profile of Nanda Devi at the head of the sanctuary. The walk takes us through the forests of oak and rhododendron to reach meadows of Gorson. From here the trail descends steepily down to the forest and we camp by a small water body at Tali. Overnight Camp.
Today the trail ascends the ridge above Tali and cairns marks our track. Just below the pass, the trail leads through a large meadow affording spectacular views of the Himalayas. North of Joshimath is the Chaukhamba range, Nilkanth (6596m) and Narayan Parbat (5965m), while Mana peak (7272m),Kamet (7756m) and Abi Gamin (7355m) extend to the Tibetan border. In the middle foreground, the main Himalayan chain in the vicinity of the Bhyundar valley and Hem Kund includes Nilgiri Parbat (6474m), Rataban (6166m), Ghori Parbat (6708m) and Hathi Parbat (6727m). Dunagairi (7066m) dominates the peaks to the north of the Nanda Devi Sanctuary. The Kuari pass (3840m) is by no means demanding - we have our lunch here and then descent an hour to the base camp at Khullara.
Have an easy start to day, post breakfast relax or amble around camp. The more enthusiastic ones have the option of walking up 2 hrs towards the summit of Pangarchulla to glimpse the beautiful sunrise on the snowcapped peaks. Hot lunch at camp, evening campfire and overnight camp.
The last day of the climb is all the way down to the Tapovan. Once we reach to Tapovan its about 45min. drive from here to the comforts of the hotel in Joshimath.
After morning breakfast set out for the 4 hr drive to reach Gauchar, the base of our rafting trip. Hot lunch at campsite. In evening a proper safety briefing about paddling commands and safety equipments. Evening to be spent in leisur
Today after breakfast we drive to Kaldubagarh upstream from our campsite. We raft from Kaldubagarh to Gauchar, rafting down a plenty of nearly 20 Class 3+ rapids over a 4 hour day. Overnight at camp in Gauchar.
After breakfast we get on the river and raft till Rudarpryag. Today the section is more Pool & drop as compared to the start with plenty of grade 3 / 4 rapids. We reach the Kakar Fall grade 5 rapid. After a thorough inspection of the rapid we negotiate or line up the rafts to enter the spectacular narrow box canyon.
